![]() ![]() Get that shit out of there and focus on your content if you care about interruptions to content. Meanwhile people cry (Rightly) about ads interrupting content. These massively intrusive overlays are no better than newsletter pop ups and cookies pop ups on websites. No tipjar, no text in the overlay except for my logo. I have a little bit of overlay for branding and alerts, that's it. ![]() I have a mantra for my channel: If it's not my main content, it doesn't get to stay. Streamers add overlays and tacky gimmicks because they can and never stop to consider if they should. So if your internet or pc can’t handle streaming 21:9 smoothly then skip it for sure lol. Having said all this though, what will hurt your viewership is lag and low fps. See one of my vods if you’d like to see an example. The other benefit is having mad screen real estate for your overlays and such. Think about watching a movie or even some netflix shows. and in the rare case they do watch you in full screen, the black bars really just make your game look cinematic as fuck. In cases like these, the black bars that appear do not hurt the viewing experience at all. Most people will either be watching you on split screen while doing something else or just watching on their phone. I tried cropping out the sides of my game and then stream the center in 16:9, which by the way works 100 times better than having the big overlays on top and bottom, but eventually i settled on just streaming at 21:9. Before i started streaming, regularly, i was anxious about the 21:9 thing too. P.S of course it all depends on the streamer's entertainability and personality but I would like to keep this discussion focused on the aesthetical and visual aspects of the overlays. Would love to hear some opinions on his topic? Do you guys like streamers with a shit ton of overlays or more minimalistic streamers? All the other things like "new follower" "new sub" "sub goal' and so on is just done with text strings in the corners where it doesn't take much space. We only have 2 animated square face cam frame-overlays and an animated channel logo during our streams and I feel like even that is sometimes a bit distracting. if they take more than 30% of the screen space it becomes annoying. No matter how "stylish" and "epic" the overlays are. It looks super tacky and ugly in my opinion. I like to go to the small streamer section and look at what other small streamers like my girlfriend and me are doing and I have been seeing a lot of small streamers have almost identical overlays that take a huge amount of space either in the top or all over one side or all clumped up in the bottom.Įverytime I see that it just turns me off from that particular stream.
